LLH began as result of the founder, Dana Marchionne, who fell in love with the Italian language and culture after taking her first Italian language 101 course while studying at Rutgers University. Shortly after, she enrolled in a study abroad program in Urbino, Italy. It was there that she realized that she was VERY good at something,...speaking Italian! Due to her passion, she learned quickly, which resulted in her changing her entire academic plan. Upon graduation, she moved to Italy, successfully immersing herself and reaching near-native fluency. Dana returned to the states where she began teaching Italian at the secondary school level. A few years later, in 2012 she launched her dream of opening a language school and Learn Language Hoboken was born. LLH presently offers Italian, Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese and ESL. Specializing in Group Classes, Private Lessons and After-School Enrichment. Come visit us today and you'll realize that the end result is just as amazing as the journey to get there.

BONJOUR! CIAO! Rita is a freelance writer and journalist, specialized in Visual Arts and History of American Photography. She’s also achieving a PHD in Phenomenology and Aesthetics at Sorbonne University in Paris, and will join, next fall, the Department of Philosophy of the New School for Social Research, in New York City, as a Visiting Scholar. Born and raised in Italy, she moved to Paris in 2003 to go deeper into her academic researches upon Contemporary French Philosophy for her Italian Master Degree. Falling in love with the city and the language, she never came back home! She started a real full immersion that lasted more than 12 years, during which she reached a native-equivalent fluency in French, working for academic, corporate and no-profit organizations. In particular she built strong educational competencies, designing, developing and teaching modules of Italian and Frenchfor Business and Corporate Philantrophy for a Parisian training Company. Natural-born traveler, she started to touring around North America in 2012. She lived in Montreal, Toronto and New York (her lifetime Love!), where she definitely moved in 2015. Quoting her favorite French philosopher, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, she loves to say that “Language transcends us and yet we speak”. So that, learning a language is not just the result of acquiring grammatical structures and rules: a language lives in you as you live in it, it’s a mutual embrace. Today Rita writes for the French magazines, Mowwgli and L’Oeil de la Photographie.
CIAO! Alberto was born and raised in Milan, where he graduated in Liberal Arts and he pursued his studies in History of Theater. His love for art and culture led him to work with some of the most important opera houses in Italy as an executive producer and stage manager.
In 2011 he left for New York City to improve his English and to work at some off-Broadway theaters as a production assistant. He fell in love with the city, and in 2014 he moved to NYC permanently. As a teacher at LLH, Alberto shares his love for his country with his students by using books, music and art. He enriches his professional skills to teach children with special needs Italian: a challenge that allows him to test and to make use of new techniques.
Alberto states that Italian "is not just a language, it's a kind of music which possesses the warmth and treasure you can find in Italy.." " I love sharing my passion for my Country with students. When I teach I try to give all of myself, my culture and my love for Italy. It's great seeing your students leaving the school, smiling and happy to speak a little bit better each time."
CIAO! Elisa is a native Italian, born and raised in Torino. She is also a PhD, an anthropologist, a writer, a traveller, and a language lover. Her ethnographic research took her to Berlin, Helsinki, and Barcelona. Since September 2015, she has been living in NYC because of her current research on migrations, languages, and cultural identities. Learning new languages and teaching Italian are activities she has been devoted to for the past 10 years. Why? Because she strongly believes that “the limits of my language mean the limits of my world” (Ludwig Wittgenstein) and that “a different language is a different vision of life” (as the great Federico Fellini affirmed): languages widen our world and open up new perspectives on the others and ourselves. She speaks Italian, Spanish, and English. Her goal is to learn French and Jamaican Patois within the next two years!
¡HOLA! Alex is a native Spanish teacher from Honduras, Central America. At the age of twelve he moved to New Jersey, where he learned English and developed his passion for languages and culture. He truly believes that when one visits a country, one should speak to the locals in their native tongue. That’s what he did before visiting Brazil: He studied enough Portuguese in order to get around the South American country. For Alex, language and culture go hand to hand. Therefore, he thinks his knowledge of Spanish would be nothing if he were not immersed in the culture of Spain and Latin America. Throughout his classes Alex incorporates language, music, literature, folklore, cuisine, cinema, and experiences about the Hispanic world. Alex has been at Learn Language Hoboken since 2015. Since then, Alex’s number one priority has been that his students receive the best learning experience after a long day at work. His class might be physically located in Hoboken, but while he is teaching, he wants his students to feel as if they were in Barcelona, Buenos Aires, or Mexico City.
